About the Angus Project
The Angus Project, located north of Prince George, British Columbia, is Vitreo Minerals’ flagship development of a high-purity silica sand mine.
This community-focused mining project will meet the growing demand for local silica sand supply in the Montney Basin and support local economic development.
The mine will supply high-quality silica sand proppants for energy production while maintaining a strong focus on environmental responsibility and community engagement.
Where we're at
Permitting
We’re working to obtain the necessary environmental and operational permits to ensure the project meets all regulatory requirements. This phase includes detailed studies and community consultations to achieve the required permits.
Operations
Once permits are in place, we will begin preparing the site with infrastructure, including roads and water management systems. During this phase, our focus is on building efficiently while minimizing environmental impact and supporting the local economy.
Delivery
The site will produce high-purity silica sand to meet market demands for natural gas production. Throughout this phase, we’ll prioritize safe and efficient material handling to ensure smooth production and timely delivery.
BENEFITS BY THE NUMBERS
The Angus Project will benefit Prince George and the broader region. By establishing a reliable local source of high-quality silica sand, the project will reduce dependency on imported sand from the US, reduce transportation-related emissions, and diversify the northern economy.
Significant job opportunities will exist at the Angus Project, with up to 150 jobs during construction, 140 jobs during operations, and 150 jobs during product delivery.

ECONOMIC BENEFITS
Vitreo will become an important partner in regional and local economic growth within Prince George, Bear Lake, and the surrounding communities. The Angus Project prioritizes contracting and hiring locally and from Indigenous nations in Northern B.C. The economic benefits will be far-reaching, relying on various industries during our construction and operations phases.
Project Goals
The proposed Angus Project is a silica mining operation that will boost economic growth and provide local employment. With innovative mining and community collaboration, we’ll minimize impact and maximize local value.
Expected Outcomes
This project will initially produce high-quality silica sand for the LNG industry, create jobs and drive growth. Focused on innovation and sustainability, it will be the largest high-quality silica sand mine in Canada.
Community Collaboration
Vitreo partners with communities to ensure transparency and mutual benefit. By staying connected and addressing concerns, we foster trust and lasting relationships.
Indigenous Engagement
Vitreo Minerals is deeply committed to working with Indigenous communities to ensure their interests and concerns are respected throughout the life of the Angus Project. We are engaging with local Nations to better understand their rights, titles, and needs, which may include access to traditional lands, hunting and fishing rights, and business opportunities.
During the planning stages, we received questions and comments from Indigenous communities about water quality, dust, road access, and employment opportunities. We’re committed to maintaining open communication and creating positive, long-term partnerships that benefit everyone.
Q: What are the opportunities for Indigenous-owned businesses?
A: Business opportunities include contracts for earthworks, road, plant, and transmission line construction, mining, hauling, blasting, and plant operations. We’ve also collaborated with Duz Cho Construction, owned by the McLeod Lake Indian Band, during exploration and permitting of the project
Q: How will Vitreo work with Indigenous communities on employment?
A: Vitreo Minerals is committed to sourcing workers from local communities and Indigenous Nations, including the Bear Lake area near Prince George, wherever possible. Job opportunities will cover a variety of roles, including blast operators, mine and haul truck drivers, plant operators, environmental monitors, maintenance personnel, and other support staff.
Q: Will the project restrict hunting and fishing activities?
A: For safety reasons, access to the mine and finishing plant sites will be temporarily restricted to authorized employees and contractors. However, public access along the North Olsson and 2800 Forest Service Roads will remain open. We acknowledge that increased activity on these roads may discourage some users from accessing hunting and fishing sites in the area. To address these concerns, we’re working with local land users, including Indigenous Nations, to understand potential impacts, and a Traffic Management Plan will be developed and implemented to help mitigate any potential effects.
As the project progresses, we will continue working closely with Indigenous Nations to address these concerns and support community investment and employment.
